film: Movie Mishaps: Episode 3

Hello and welcome to the latest installment of I Spy, the movie show where no amount of
make-up can disguise the pock marks and deep lined errors on the airbrushed face of Hollywood film.

We’ve got another array of disasterous mishaps for your video delectation, so sit back and enjoy.

Justin, you have no shame. But I like you. Whatever next? Frank N Furter suspenders for a Rocky Horror movie mishap?

Feels like this show needs more time to breathe but that doesn’t sit with the Channel Flip’s raison d’être which is a shame. At least there’s no-one else doing this kind of thing so kudos to you.

Can’t wait for the horror special.

Grease is my fave film ever. Never seen that thing with the light switch b4. I love it!!!

Huge trouble scrubbing backwards/forwards for some reason. I wanted to go back 30 seconds and could only make the playhead leap around uncontrollably in segments of much longer. Don’t think I normally have this problem. I’ve upgraded from Safari 4 beta to the final version today. Could that be the reason?

June 9th, 2009 - 6:30pm

Hmm, nope. Same problem in Firefox.

June 9th, 2009 - 6:35pm

Wait…is this thing called Movie Mishaps or I Spy? Make your minds up :)

June 9th, 2009 - 8:15pm

Look - I’m sorry for all the comments - but at least it means I’m paying attention! (It appears, as punishment, the captcha text I have to transcribe is “$56,600,000″.)

“See the clock face? It reads 3:21…”

Er - no it doesn’t Justin. That’s 3:29. You’ve clearly spent too much time around digital watches ;)

June 9th, 2009 - 10:43pm

We are well aware that the new player is not scrubbable, we are working on a solution. Thanks your for your patients.

keep up the good work

I can’t really say I connect with the iSpy episodes, as I always felt that excessive attention to those kinds of details detracts from the experience of a film. If you think varying times on Big Ben’s clockface is bad, you should try to count all the people in Spartacus (saw the digital remaster yesterday. Rubbish remaster of a classic.) who forget that they’re supposed to be playing dead after major battle scenes.

I realise that there’s sport in finding mistakes and seeing who can spot the most, but in the end, does the disappearance of a bagel matter at all or is the incessant focusing on minor continuity details just giving film makers one more annoyance to have to deal with? As a film student, we’ve spent some time on shoots making sure completely insignificant details match up, while we could have spent that time making the most of the actors and the camera.

June 10th, 2009 - 1:44pm

Jeez Magnulus…lighten up. It’s a bit of throw-away fun. The film industry takes itself far too seriously (as proved by your comments) and while this show may go to great lengths to pick up on some minor imperfections it will do nothing to make the machine stop so don’t worry.

If you’re serious about film-making as a career you should be concerned about the details for that’s where the devil is. Sorry if you see continuity on a film as an annoyance because it gets in the way of your “art”. Movie production requires more than just a director, camera and actor you know.

Paul
June 10th, 2009 - 2:55pm

Yeah Rod, I totally agree with Magnulus. It really is of little interest to anyone if for example Julia Roberts jumps in a red car and we, the paying audience, then see her driving off in a blue car, just as long as her lines are spot on and she lit just right. Film makers have enough to deal with as it is without having to think about detail. The nerve!

Simon says….awesome!

Rod, Magnulus and Paul should take a chill pill. And Si spotting an error in the error show is pure poetry. How about a show that spots the mistakes in movie mishaps.

1. My scrubber doesn’t work either.

2. Arnold surely means patience and not patients.

June 11th, 2009 - 12:35pm

Haha! I did mean patience, thanks for the correction, always mix those two up.

Horror special sounds great for the next show.

How about:

Sci-Fi special
Star Wars special
Porn Special
Snuff film special

After that?

Paul
June 12th, 2009 - 2:35pm

Great idea Movie Wrangler. Fancy volunteering for the snuff special? When it’s all over David Mitchell can have his wicked way with you.

I reckon that presenter is already into some kinky shit judging by the Cher impression. I’m in if he is?

Mitchell can go play with Robert Webb. He’s into welding torches and leotards.

Movie Mishaps….officially less controversial than David Mitchell’s Soapbox.

Nice show dudes!

June 19th, 2009 - 11:53am

Why aren’t you posting more?

June 19th, 2009 - 3:55pm

What do you mean by that ‘d’? Are you asking when the next show is?

Perhaps Movie Mishaps takes a while to put together. I’m sure they’ll get the next episode online asap.

Perhaps Arnold Pistorius can answer that question?

June 19th, 2009 - 4:21pm

Please call me Arnie,

Too your Delight There is a DVD of Horrific proportions sitting on my desk,so… next week is looking very promising for an episode.

Stumpy
June 19th, 2009 - 10:39pm

A DVD of Horrific proportions? Does that mean less than the normal five minutes Arnie? Now that would be horrific! This is a series crying out for a bigger slot. What chance 15 minutes? Movie Mishaps is like my monthly fix and I’m getting addicted.

Lee, Tina, d and Stumpy - I couldn’t agree more. This show is ace and deserves it’s own show on TV. If not, come on Channel Flip, give us Movie Mishaps as regularly as David Mitchell. Half the time it’s funnier and it’s certainly more entertaining. Please don’t stick that Peugeot advert at the beginning though - it’s getting a tad irritating.

Stumpy
June 23rd, 2009 - 10:14am

Well said The One, well said, however I must say even though the advert is irritating (as they all are) it’s how ChannelFlip gets its revenue. Mr Mitchell’s blogs can’t be cheap and there are two writers on Movie Mishaps and then Batman and Robin need to be paid too as well as all the other presenters. Long may the advertisers see how entertaining and popular ChannelFlip is.

Thanks for the show guys. I applaud how Movie Mishaps catches all of Hollywood’s dirty little mistakes and presents them to us in such a clever, entertaining way. Bravo, dahlings, bravo!
