This set of goggles is really quite a strange device.

There’s a 320×240 OLED screen in each side of the visor, so that the brain interprets the two as a large screen a few feet in front of you.

The visor connects to a device like an iPod, N95/96 or any device with a composite output.

It’s great for getting a big screen experience on the go. However, you do look like a little bit of a pillock. Watch the video for my verdict.

I can’t believe how long it’s taking to get proper spatial light modulating displays which can overlay opaque micro-pixels onto the otherwise transparent glass in front of each eyeball.

Then you could see through them, but also have video displayed wherever you want in your field of vision, and also have any other ‘virtual objects’ placed stereoscopically into your field of vision. Like GPS signposts, or a huge hand pointing into a Starbucks you’re about to walk past. Or even a herd of wild horses stampeding down the street if that’s your thing.

Usable head-up displays and head-up keyboards can only be a few years away now. Come ON sci-fi future. Hurry up!

these are pretty cool, beacause if u think about it when would you ever think you would be able to have this sort of tecno at your disposal? Maybe you dreampt about it when star trek was on but i mean the idea finally coming to real people is amaizingly cool.

Maybe the 1st concept isnt great but the first tv wasnt either so in the future there should be amaizing ones to spend lovely doe on !

The issue with being able to look out of your peripheral vision is easily fixed by buying the *additional* rubber shield that pops on and blocks out all extra light for that fully immersed experience :)

Lawrence,
It’s not really new though is it… The same thing in different guises has been arround for years (at least 15 years for the glasses version and the VR Helmet was on Tomorrows World in the mid 1980’s)
Chris,
I completly agree. What happened to the VR gloves of Tomorrows World 198? and headup display as per Universal Soldier ;-)
