games: Spore: Cell and Creature stages

This was such a hyped and anticipated game that I was very worried it wouldn’t live up to expectations, but my god (and I suppose in this case, that’s me) this is a great game.

It blends fun and intuitive gameplay, with a charming setting and wonderfully deep editing as you control your species’ evolution. Watch this space for the continuation of my Spore coverage as I look at the tribal, civilization and space stages in the coming weeks.

And if you come across my (Spatchcock’s) Horn of Plenties in your game, let me know about it!

When is your review for star wars or brother in arms coming out?

How come you guys duck the AAA titles?

also where do you get your clothes?

Hey there, both of those reviews are coming soon. I’m not ducking anything - the Star Wars one is already written and is waiting to be filmed later this week, and then edited for one of next week’s episodes - but I am really sorry those ones didn’t come out sooner. I always try to get the big titles out asap, but unlike a text review, a video review takes a bit longer to put together, and I’ve also been having ‘technical problems’ lately with one of my machines conking out and loads of games getting lost in the post which has really screwed with the scheduling. Nightmare! Thanks for posting though, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know about things I can try to improve.

As for my clothes, all over the place really. If you name something specific I could try to remember. Why do you ask?

I like the look of this a heck of a lot more than The Sims and I love the idea of evolving my own species to let loose into the online food chain (to get pwned probably lol) so I may give this a go.

BTW if I do I will be giving the Horn of Plenty’s a bloody wide berth ‘cos they look decidedly dodgy to me~:)

humm, ive seen reviews all over the place for this, praise all round, but i cant see whats good about spore, i here claims like “this is the next sims” “the next big thing from maxis” and i love the sims and simcity and all the sim games. but at every stage of development not one did i think ….”humm i might get that”

i figured id wait for video reviews, i must of watched every review 1000 times (well u get the point) and i still cant see anything good about it at all. it looks boring, complicated, strange, and well…rubbish. if only you could rent pc games on blockbuster…

dont worry gamers, i well aware of the phrase “dont knock it till you have tried it”

Hey Katharine,

The diversity of likes and dislikes; and, I’m sorry friends, but this game warms me. I can see myself sitting down with my father trying to create the best creature possible.

Thanks so much,
Joseph

@ Katherine

I was asking the clothes question because you dress pretty alternative and I guess their cool?

Also I would like it if you went out more instead of being in that claustrophobic

so far, so good. Looking forward to the rest of the Spore reviews.
I know you’re not finished yet with your review, but I think that you should give people a heads up on the copy protection on Spore. After all, it’s at least controversial, and people interested in buying the game should know about it.

Is Spatchcock an Adam and Joe influenced name?

Feel free to add my creations (rubbish as they are) my user name is uppi17.

Good point Match, thank you. I will mention it in the next part of the review.

Ben, I’m afraid Spatchcock is just a small poultry influenced name. I love Adam and Joe, but have a very poor memory for things like that. Thanks for posting your username, I will add your creations tomorrow :)
