tech: Netbooks: Asus Eee PC 901 & 1001

Wil and Andrew line up three of the Asus Eee PC models - the original 701, the 901 and the newer 1001.

Asus practically created the netbook genre with the 701, and this week we’ve been looking at its competitors in the market. The 901 and 1001 are 9″ and 10″ models respectively, and come outfitted with some fairly decent hardware.

Check out the verdict on the two latest models in this video.

My 901 w/ xp is sweet, I choose it over the 1001 because that model doesn’t have the ssd or xp options.

Dear Wil,

It is great seeing you again; I enjoy your personality and videos.

Mr. helper, ask someone to adjust the case for you, and move on to reviewing more; I understand that the bag should have been designed better and that it is definitely worth mentioning, except I needed more information about the book!

As a note: 1 gig of RAM is not even enough RAM for normal applications, leaving alone that 500 MB was fine. One gigabyte of RAM means a person will still have to RAM-manage the system, under Windows. Ha, ha!

I liked the review, very different and great fun with you guys, however it seems rushed, not enough details were considered, and please, look at the camera: I was feeling alone watching this.

Some other notes: The Screens: were they matted or glossed for glare, and are they bright enough for sitting outside? Ports: which kind, how many, and where are they located? Talk about USB at least. Performance: which ones will play H.264 at 720p, and very importantly, for how long?

Well, obviously, you all need more time to do a review, comfortably; a solution, petition for more time, or break them up. The better choice is make your videos as long as is needed to do a good job in one episode. Basically, breaking them up only when the information is sufficient enough that a viewer would want to comeback, not when he or she is starve for more, but absorption is needed, because otherwise, cliffhangers after 4 minutes of viewing will only serve to cause frustration and a crystal-clear reason, in someone’s mind, for loss of interest.

Okay, what do you think about my share of thoughts?

Much love,
Joseph

I absolutely love the 701, I’ve been using mine for about 9 months. My only gripe is the 800px screen, which you can learn to live with but I look forward to upgrading to the 901 - the form factor is just spot on and I’ve got quite used to typing on a small keyboard.
