film: Ten of the world’s finest cycling films
The British Cycling Olympians have done us proud.

Breaking Away not on the list? Forget checking out this clip then. If that movie isn’t on that reviewers top 10 cycling films, then this isnt worth my time.
I bought BMX Bandits expecting it to be so bad, that it would be funny.
Instead, it was so bad that it was REALLY bad. It’s very rare that I struggle to make my way through a film. I was expecting lots of old school BMX tricks too - but the best you get is them flying off a few ledges at speed…
Also overlooked on this list…”Rad”(since BMX Bandits made the cut…), but still a good list overall.
I watched Taiwanese film called ‘Island Etude’ which basically follows the journey of a man as he cycles around Taiwan.
Doesn’t sound too exciting, but its worth watching for the beautiful cinematography alone. Taiwan looks like an amazing place to visit.
I watched in great anticipation as the count-down neared number one and expected “Breakig Away”, by far the best all out cycle/cyclist mentality film I’ve seen. As I sat crushed by it’s total omission the bland review of the piggy piggy snack sent me into a total funk.
I thought “Breaking Away” would be a shoe-in for the top spot.
IMO in order for a movie to be considered a “INSERT WORD HERE” movie you would have to have “INSERT WORD HERE” as one of the top words people would use to describe what the film is about.
I was so pleased when I saw that the subject of your latest podcast was to be films about my chosen sport/past time/money pit. I watched as usual and then for the first time came to this board, to protest at the lack of ‘Breaking Away’. When you announced number two and it was neither ‘Belleville Rendezvous’ nor ‘Breaking Away’ I knew you’d blown it. It’s no surprise at all then that I’m not the first to express my disappointment.
As a child I watched this film in delight over and over again and it now has a very special place in my heart along side ‘Silent Running’.
Good stab at a minority genre but it lacked essential research; 2 stars.
You forgot Quick Silver (Kevin Bacon) and Breaking Away (Dennis Christopher, Dennis Quaid, Daniel Stern)
Technically, these movies have cycling as part of their plot as opposed to ET and Butch Cassidy, which just happen to have a bike in the story line.
Good for you for having a go just the same
