games: Civilization Revolution

Hello,

Join me today as I check out Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution - a console incarnation of the popular Civilization series.

It’s a very glossy and somewhat streamlined version of the turn based strategy game, but that doesn’t mean it’s been dumbed down. Far from it in fact.

This is a very good, and very enjoyable adaptation for a new platform which should be of interest to both Civilization masters and acolytes alike.

Hi Tom, this can be a difficult decision, but, you know, I don’t think you’re asking the right question there. I don’t think you can categorically say that games are better on one particular platform. Some games are better suited to or better implemented on a PC than a console and vice versa, so you have to take it on a case by case basis. And when comparing anything to a PC it very much depends on the setup of that PC. Also remember that the majority of this sort of decision will come down to personal preference so you need to ask yourself what you personally find more enjoyable for different types of game rather than appealing to an abstract notion of ‘betterness’. The whole notion of platform wars is to me quite frankly ridiculous. Surely the best thing about having lots of different platforms out there is that we now have choice and variety instead of having to expect everyone to like the same thing.

Getting away from the whole deep physiology of game platforms, I’d would have to generalise with FPS’s being wholly better on a pc, but that boils down to me having a love for mouse aiming. And yes I do have friend that love using analogue controllers for aiming, personally i just find it fiddly. Then there’s the question if your happy using a qwerty keyboard whilst gaming opposed to a game pad etc.
Also console offer out of the box performance, with no need for driver updates and customised hardware etc (the kinda thing i’d thrive on =D). Guess i cant say it better than Katharine, just a matter of preference :S

na i wouldn’t say that, AoM and AoE is a typical RTS, this is turn based. this is slow and very time consuming, you cant just spirt out a bunch of cavemen to go stone a mecca of an amazing peaceful civilization that wasn’t expecting any attack unit the Future (ctrl Q)
