film: Jumper

There are five words that should make every self-respecting Star Wars fan shudder: I give you “Jar Jar Binks” and “Hayden Christensen”.

Binks was an abomination. A torrid CGI experiment gone wrong. Actually, scratch that. He was a wretched disaster.

Hayden Christensen, aka young Darth Vader, wasn’t quite Binks bad. But he wasn’t a million miles away from that unholiest of criticisms.

The problem was that he brought nothing to the character except a wooden kind of indifference. He was like Pinocchio without the strings. You might want to blame that on George Lucas’ pedestrian script-writing skills. However, just look how Sir Alec Guinness made the early scripts sound both mystical and poetic.

Several years post ‘Wars’, young Christensen lands on my desk courtesy of the ‘Jumper’ DVD. For a few days, I pushed it around like a child moving unwanted Brussel sprouts around a Christmas dinner plate.

Plucking the courage, I finally watched it and got the surprise of my life. Watch the video and see why.

That movie was so disappointing - i had hoped it was going to be the next matrix but alas, it was not to be :(

I guess i should have known better than to expect Mr Wooden face not to suck >_<

On to something more important though FINALLY a Piggy Piggy Snack Snack i recognize (I’m in Australia so most of the sweets you review I’ve NEVER seen before…)

I absolutely LOVE the hard ‘Werther’s Original’ but i have never seen the soft chewy ones you reviewed and gave a tasty 4 stars…

How many stars would you give the Werther’s Original Wil?

*Spoiler Alert*
I was dissapointed in the reasoning behind Samuel L Jacksons character. I felt like they could have taken the whole thing in an entirely different direction of making him like no other person in the world.

Instead it boiled down to a sort of reimagining of Highlander or Dracula.

I would probably watch it again if a friend wanted to, and I enjoyed a lot of it, but that aspect of the movie bumped me.
*End Spoiler Alert*

Nice idea - executed with a half-arsed ham-fisted bottom-line eyeing cynicism that annoyed me more than it being a genuinely bad film would have. Also loses a point for shoe-horning of half arsed romantic subplot into the film. Yuck.

I think the movie rocked!! and as far as hayden christensen as anakin skywalker- i think he did a PHENOMENAL job– especially for it to be still early in his career! he is VERY talented and did a FANTASTIC job on both jumper and star wars!!!!!!!!!!

I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. I am not a huge SciFi guy, but it was just a cool concept that looked visually stunning. You through in a beautiful damsel in distress (Rachael Bilson) and you got a A grade guy movie!

Surely you mean Costello follows Abbot?

I thought your jumping is pretty great - good job on the post production effects.
