games: Mac Gaming 101.1

Hello there,

Now, much as we all love our various Mac computers here at ChannelFlip, we’re ready to admit that the issue of gaming has long been a thorn in the side of Apple fans.

But the perception that you have to have a high powered Windows PC for gaming on a computer, combined with a lack of publicity for the growing Mac gaming industry, means that a surprising number of people aren’t aware of what you can achieve gaming wise on a Mac.

So for this week on ChannelFlip Games I’ve put together a mini series on Mac gaming to give you the run down of your main three options, starting today with a show on native gaming.

We’re also running a competition this week to win copies of Unreal Tournament III for Xbox 360: check it out!

Have a good week,
Katharine

You could always go to http://www.apple.com/games - that has a host of useful information and links.

In your next installment, cover Crossover Games.

Will you be looking at CrossOver Games for the next part? It’s definately worth checking out, especially for Steam games: http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/

Katherine, that’s true, marketing of Mac games is pretty dismal. Glad to see you back in the show. Was wondering where you went. :)

Why didn’t you mention Starcraft II, WoW 3.0, and Diablo III? Those are probably the biggest games coming to Mac, and the most well done ports. :)

If you like fast paced first person shooters, check out World of Padman. Built on the Quake 3 engine, it’s fast, colorful and damn fun.

And come play on the BC servers! (BC1 and BC2)

Ummmm, UT3 isn’t out on the Mac yet… Or has it been released in Europe? Seems doubtful to me.

July 2nd, 2008 - 10:43am

Erk - my bad on the UT3 thing. At the time of filming this (early May) the info seemed to be correct, but obviously things have changed between then and putting this out! That’ll teach me to rely on internet info about release dates before I see the thing in my hand! Amazon gives 29th July as the current release date for it in Europe. Sorry for the confusion!

And yes, I will be checking out CrossOver Games in Thursday’s episode.

Never rely on Amazon for release dates!

Mac gaming?
DON’T MAKE ME LAUGH
Overpriced laptops with slow graphics cards good games machines don’t make.
