games: TNA Impact preview

Last Monday Midway and TNA Wrestling showed off the latest build of TNA Impact! to a bunch of eager London games journos.

After a presentation by Midway and a couple of the TNA Superstars who were involved with making the game, we got some hands-on time with the game and a chance to interview Samoa Joe, current TNA Heavyweight Champion, and ‘The Phenomenal’ A.J. Styles who also has a string of championships under his oversized belt.

I have to say, these guys were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met; they were so friendly and incredibly genuine about their love of video games. How often do you see world famous athletes just wanting to hang out and play games with strangers?

Having just completed a live tour in the UK with sell out shows and huge amounts of fan support, TNA are definitely looking to focus some serious love on the market in old Blighty. The game looks damn good so far with outstandingly impressive graphics, and I’m looking forward to reviewing the final release in September. We saw it on the 360, but it’s also going to be available for PS3, PS2 and Wii.

As a special treat for you, I nabbed signed prints (A3 size) from both Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles. To win these, simply sign up to the ChannelFlip newsletter (over there on the right!) and we’ll pick two random subscribers to win at the beginning of next week.

Good luck and enjoy the show!

That’s just lazy. If you wanted a better look at the Chandelier you could have just used a ladder like anyone else. :p

So cool - I got to see TNA’s live show in Brentwood, Essex (I know, the glamour!) and it was superawesome.

Midway had a few promo-people there to hype the game and give out nice promotional postcards and Midway lanyards, and were showing off some video of it too. If we’re gonna be able to update the roster with DLC wrestlers, that will be a major bonus.

(Also, TNA are coming back to the UK in January next year for another live tour at even bigger venues - including MEN Arena, NIA and Wembley Arena!)

TNA IMPACT WILL BE THE NEXT-GEN VERSION OF THE STILL POPULAR THQ/AKI SERIES ON THE NINTENDO 64.

TNA is definitely not as good as SVR 2008 in my opinion.

To Joey, TNA’s game is gonna be 10x better than the glitchfest that is SVR.

My opinion is that TNA wrestlers are just WWE rejects who couldn’t make it in the SVR!

How about we wait until the game comes out before we decide if it sucks?

Guys! Let’s calm it down here. Nobody is sucking anybody’s balls. Let’s keep the conversation nice and adult, huh?

TNA as a wrestling promotion has revolutionised the industry, talented performers that are acctually allowed to do what they do best. Most of the TNA stars either havn’t been in WWE or never got anywhere as they didn’t have the right look or good enough mic skills, half the current WWE rosta can’t actually wrestle!

Now TNA are trying to do the same with wrestling games, SvR is a tired old series, I traded in SvR2008 after about a month as it realistically represents how the WWE sucks so bad at the moment, half the move set of 2007, having no choice but to wrestle injured in the season mode, the new submission style was an interesting idea but extreamly poor in execution, etc.

If the TNA game beats the SvR series as well as the TNA wrestlers outdo their WWE counterparts in the ring this game will live in my machine for months

I think this is great that means WWE have no choice to make there game better now. TNA have real wrestlers doing motion captures Which WWE don’t do well there have to now. I wonder if the TNA knockouts are in this game because I like Awesom Kong.

Response to ‘animeboss’

We can but hope the knockouts are included, I’ll be most surprised if not, they are after all the hottest womens division in the bussiness at the moment, taking the bumps as well as any of the guys. (even if match names like ‘bimbo brawl I believe it was, make them sound more like WWE eye candy)

I just want to see how well the do the entrance for Angelina Love and Velvet Sky in the game, an entrance which promted Don West to utter the imortal line “Never before have I wished I were a ring rope”

It has to be said that Sky and Love are extreamly pleasing to the eye and also they are coming on well in the ring, even if their on screen character’s attitude does stink on ice.

TNA IMPACT IS GOOD FOR WRESTLING AND THE VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY. THQ GAMES ARE CRAP, THE PUNCHING AND KICKING MECHANICS ARE AWFUL, SVR VS RAW 2008 WAS JUST ALL-AROUND A POOR PRESENTATION OF A WRESTLING VIDEO GAME. IF YOUR A FAN OF TNA OR WWE, YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED BECAUSE FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS, YOU’LL BE PLAYING SOME GREAT GAMES ON BOTH SIDES.
