film: Aliens vs Predator Requiem

ALIENATED! The vast majority of people would say that being a film reviewer is a soft option. And they wouldn’t be wrong.

But every so often a film comes along that is so tedious, inane and without merit that it is actually depressing.

Alien Versus Predator 2 is one of those films dear viewers. It left me feeling so empty that an episode of The Teletubbies would have been an improvement.

I hope you enjoy the review more than I enjoyed the film.

This movie is an abomination and the DVD release is one of the worst as far as picture quality I have ever seen. What is the best part of this movie (besides the end credits)? During the entire hospital scene, the main character’s (Michelle Dessler from ‘24′) daughter completely disappears. She must have had a test at school that day of shooting.

have always appreciated the alien and predator films (tho predator 2 not so much), even the AvP pc games were good back in the day. Never got around to watching the AvP films, though i find it hard to understand how they could make a hash of it, goes to show that films based on games suck =)

I thought the film was quite fun. Dumb and badly written sure but fun nonetheless.

@ Joel I can’t comment on the DVD release but the Blu-ray version is one of the best transfers I have seen.

Brilliant review, very funny, love to know how many takes that monologue adventure ending with the warm fridge light took.

One comment though, why does the audio suddenly pan to the left for the middle section of the review?

Yes, this film was indeed not the best thing ever made… hell, it’s worse than Predator 2…. but still my friends, consider the following.

Would you rather have a PG-13 piece of dung with CG aliens… or would you rather have an R-rated bloodbath with some interesting creature designs, a peek at the Predator homeworld, and some much needed carnage in middle America… just to see how much damage these creatures could do?

I thought so. In every way this is an improvement over the last film, which should be applauded. For all intents and purposes, their hearts were in the right place. One must wonder though, how brilliant it could have been with Paul Anderson at the helm again given how well he pulled of the horror of Event Horizon, which has a cult following to this very day.

So yes, it’s bad… but it’s not Alien 3 bad.

As to it being based on a video game, it’s not. The AvP comics are the inspiration for these movies.

I recommend that fans give it a rental at least… while it’s not to our reviewer’s taste… some of us appreciate the occasional mindless bit of the ultraviolence.
