film: Charlie Wilson’s War

Aaron Sorkin is the master of scripting political dramas was a military edge - just think back to A Few Good Men and The West Wing as fine examples of his work (and remember Studio 60 as a warning sign that he should stick to what he knows).

Director Mike Nichols brings back an old friend in the form of Julia Roberts (they worked together on Nichols’ flick Closer) and assembles a couple of other outstanding actors in the form of Tom Hanks, Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

What did I make of the film? Watch the show to find out.

I watched this a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was (as always) the best thing in it.

Yes - of course that was my finger!
It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book, but still very effective!

So why are they must now reviewing a movie that came out a year ago?

Please fix the audio on this and the dragon wars podcast, it is notnormalized for the opening and closing flip logos. They are much louder than the content.

Even if you’re not interested in the film (and you should be, because it’s got Philip Seymour Hoffman in it), this is worth watching for the (shaggy) dog story. Excellent stuff.

Hi Bill. Good question about our reviews. We decided to review moves that have just come out on DVD or download in the UK. The idea being that if you want to watch a movie from the comfort of your home, you come onto ChannelFlip, watch a review and then order the movie.

Justin,

Thanks for turning me on to this movie; I enjoyed it very much! Especially the very end, which is the reason I think it is a great film.

Cheers,
Len
