tech: The Ripserver

This little beauty takes your CDs, rips them to its 1TB NAS storage then pumps them out to all your network devices. Nifty. I get down and get to grips with the hardware, which is rather neatly encased in a compact and bijou box. Is it worth the cash? Watch the video to find out.

Interesting ripper. It runs headless then? Was that a web browser interface you were using to configure then?

Surely this is just some automated piece of software on a shuttle form-factor pc. Don’t think i could justify £500 for a system that is limited to ripping (not unless i had some serious disposable income :) ). If the software were available to allow for a custom build, at a reasonable price, I would consider it. But then again iTunes / WMP do a good enough job for me :)

Have to admit that I can’t see the point in this beastie - especially at the cost. You can do exactly the same by using your computer and a NAS device of some description at a fraction of the cost. It doesn’t negate the most arduous bit of the process (the actual CD swapping) or speed it up in any way so I’m kind of struggling to see how it gets a 4 star rating as it’s trying for a niche that doesn’t seem to be there.

Anyway, good to see all the shows back and the new site design is very spangly.

I could see this be useful for someone who is blind.
