tech: Google Alternatives

If you’re feeling a little flirty, why not try out some alternative search services? Sometimes the Great Google isn’t the only way - or even the best way - to find out what you’re looking for. In this episode:

Ask - a revamp of an old favourite with some decent new features.
Digg - ostensibly social news, but also great for finding trusted information.
Delicious - a directory of bookmarks recommended and tagged.
Mahalo - a human powered search engine with some great features.

Enjoy the show!

clusty.com is also pretty good, it sorts the results into categories.

This was a good show idea, but how sad that you didn’t even mention ChaCha.com (labelled by magazines as the potential “Google Killer”) with it’s search “Guides” (humans finding answers for you) and it’s plans for a free phone service where humans find answers (using search engine technology) for you while you wait on the phone or over SMS!

Worth a mention in a followup show, for sure.
