games: Conflict: Denied Ops
This is yet another next-gen first person shooter with what can be generously described as squad-based gameplay. Buckle up and lock and load for another episode of the show.

“Make up your motherf*****n mind redneck!”
Nice article in CPC this month again also.
Thank you for this Review… first, I was thinking about to buy this game - but now I think I will go back to my old Xbox and play some BLACK - has nicer grafics anyway.
(sorry for my crappy English), grettings from Germany,

“More clipping than a fraudulent hooker” I’ve gotta use that line on a day to day basis. lol (loi for BOL listeners)

It’s not “next” gen anymore. Xbox 360 and PS3 are the “current” gen.
In these days of multi-million dollar budgets, large testing teams and the amount of money spent on game development in general seeing something like this is even sadder. The ads for new devs always emphasise the love of games that you should have and there are departments geared entirely towards market research but we still get tripe like this. It is somehow baffling. Hollywood can make money off of rubbish because a ticket to the flicks is six quid, but people are generally (EA Sports as the exception that proves the rule) more careful with forty quid, so I’m baffled as to how they recoup their costs.
Of course, there was never a time when everything was great, but the costs of producing a normal-mapped HDR lit game nowadays precludes teams from taking the risks that they used to be able to, which I think reduces the innovation that we’re going to see. Even within those confines though, I can’t see how crap like this and Frontlines is made. The FPS genre is nothing if not mature and I wonder how the decisions that have ruined both these games have been made. It’s sad, they’re both okish ideas that if executed well would have been alright, but as it is they’re both turgid lups o’shite that do nothing but disappoint. You’d think with that sort of cash on the line the parent companies would pay a little more attention.
It’s a different thing to Kane & Lynch which I think is potentially a very good game ruined by being rushed - these feel like games with an original idea built around a rickety framework. Do they honestly want to trundle about emptying mags at each other all night long, or are they simply unwilling to accept that others (CoD4) have essentially nailed it and learn the lessons therein.
Apologies for the rant, but it’s a pet peeve. Maybe it’s the rose tinted specs, but eight years ago I had more games to choose from than I knew what to do with and now the only thing that has me genuinely excited is GTA IV. Bah
Also, why two stars? Did the rolex on the hand model sway you at all, because the rest of it is godawful. Blerch.
Good review Katharine! I was thinking into giving this game a shot but after a couple reviews and comments on boards seems not worth it. Hope you check more 360 titles (FIFA Street 3 plz). Keep up the good work
“More clipping than a fraudulent hooker.” Quality. Sheer quality.
One of the funiest reviews I’ve seen in a long time,
Cheers for the heads up on this medicore game and keep up the great work Flip Team
No zoom on the sniper, well that sucks.
what a big disappointment this was. once the demo came out it was over. i mean you can’t judge everything from the demos, but this was horrid. good review though.
Ouch, that sounds like a really, really crappy game. To contrast, what’s your opinion of Frontlines: Fuel of War?
Thanks guys for all the comments and continued support - I really appreciate it and it makes the 6am script writing frenzies worthwhile! ![]()
RawSteelUT - Frontlines:FoW coming out today, looking forward to trying it out!
Spot on Schmung.

Im also wondering if you are going to wear a jedi knight out fit for the show?I would really like to see you wearing something cool like that!!! also I forgot to remind you to sign my t-shirt that you are making for me. thanks tom s williams
Hi Tom, if we end up making Play:Digital t-shirts you will be able to purchase them through the website. Please do not send any money in advance as I am still looking into how feasible it will be to set up a print run, and will also need to put the idea to the powers that be, so i can’t promise that it will happen, or how soon and at what price. I will do my best though, and will absolutely remember to sign yours if it goes ahead. I’ll try to get them out before your birthday, but again, no promises! Thanks for supporting the show ![]()
As for Force Unleashed, I am very excited. Will try to review it on as many platforms as I can in the initial release (I wish it was coming to PC). And dude, I don’t need a costume; everything I wear is a jedi outfit - my midichlorian count is through the roof! ![]()

wow, amazing. Somehow it’s even more fun to hear you rip a game apart than when you like it
Nice review, although I wasn’t interested in this game to begin with.
