games: Turok demo

Turok is about to make its debut on next-generation consoles, and the demo has already landed on Xbox Live. I give it a whirl to see if it can recover the franchise from its last awful outing.

I have stopped watching since you started reviewing demos. Review released games instead, that is what I (and im sure many other too) is interested to see about. If i want to know about a demo il download it myself.

I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve heard ‘verisimilitude’ used in a game review lol

Opportunity squandered really. I wouldn’t say that I hated it or even that I disliked it hugely when playing, but it’s just so wilfully average that I ended up loathing it. The knife kills cause horrible, horrible errors with the camera at times, the frame rate is horribly erratic, the guns are rubbish and the whole thing feels plodding and clumsy. The dinosaurs are vaguely scary at first as well, but once you realise that the knife is instant death for most of them it makes the combat almost entirely pointless.

Boo hiss to the devs for wasting a golden opportunity for some top dino-shooty action. Maybe I’ve just been incredibly spoiled by Valves storytelling, CoD4s perfect gameplay, Halos co-op and so and so forth, but I honestly feel that stuff like this is a bit lazy. I’d probably saying a lot worse if I’d been forced to spend forty quid on it as well.

Thank you for doing this review, I was thinking about getting this or renting this.

Hey, great review as always. I’d really like to hear you review some more retail games, however. While I enjoy hearing your views on the demo, I can play that myself and make up my own mind. I understand there’s an associated cost, but hearing your views on other popular games would be a more compelling experience.
Best of luck with the series.

I agree about the retail games, but the problem is that there are week in Jan / Feb when there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING new out at the stores worth bothering with, so it’s more interesting to look at a teaser of an upcoming game :o)

I too would like to see more retail games. I understand that there is nothing new coming out, but there are a lot of games already out & with only 48 episodes and being in existence for less than a year, why not look at some of the old well reviewed games that viewers may not have gotten the first time around? During the writers strike in the USA several podcasts that usually review what’s on TV have instead been suggesting completed series that people should pick up on DVD to get them through this dry spell. Doing something similar here, or telling us what to avoid from the bargain bin, no matter how cheap it may be, would be really nice.

I agree there’s not much point in reviewing demos as usually everyone has access to them anyway. If you haven’t got any full games to review I think you should move into the dinosaur impressions market. You’ve got a monopoly in this area & you looked more realistic than the CGI in Primeval!

Thanks for all the feedback guys and sorry for doing lots of demos/small releases right now. Obviously I prefer to be reviewing full games, but it is a difficult season. I will definitely try to keep demo reviews to a minimum where possible in the future. Nooker - thanks for the suggestions, I will bear that in mind and have a big think about whether to break from our plan of reviewing current games only. As for dinosaur impressions, I have a whole repertoire…

Apologies for sparseness of posting from me this week, but I am currently in New Orleans recovering from Mardi Gras. Last night I ran into some guys dressed as Mario and Luigi! (Photo on ChannelFlip fan page on facebook).

Maybe since there not a lot of games coming out, you should do a video about the new gta website and all the new videos that have come out?
