games: Cool Machinima!

Welcome back Play:Digital viewers, and Happy New Year to you.

We have a bit of an unusual one for you today, a feature showcasing some of my favourite machinima. This is such an interesting technique bridging the worlds of video gaming and film making, and for those of you who aren’t already devotees, I hope this episode will pique your interest.

Featured material can be found at the following sites:

1. Adam Kovic’s how to videos featured in the introduction offer some handy hints for Halo 2 users. Watch here.

2. Rooster Teeth Productions, home of Red vs Blue and P.A.N.I.C.S. Featured here are Red vs Blue eps 82 and 85, PANICS ep1.

3. Lit Fuse Films - great for Valve fans. We’ve shown clips from Ignis Solus, ThunderMelon 2, The Ballad of Black Mesa and Rusty Whispers - Daniel.

4. The South Park episode ‘Make Love Not Warcraft’ is episode no. 147, from season 10, available on iTunes.

5. Episodes of The Adventures of Bill & John can be downloaded here and Danger Attacks at Dawn can be streamed from GameVideos here.

6. And you can download Friedrich Kirschner’s ‘The Journey’ here.

If you’re interested in making your own machinima, the ‘Dummies Guide’ is not a bad way to start. You can pick it up from Amazon here.

We’re back to our normal schedule now so check back on Wednesday and Friday for reviews of the Metal Slug 3 XBLA port and the indie award-winning Gish.

Enjoy!

Pavel Scratzinitch would definitely approve of the Friedrich Kirschner work.

A really interesting episode on a subject I haven’t really seen covered in any depth anywhere else, thanks for expanding my horizons a little bit more!

Happy new year from Germany to you all!
Nice video on machinima. Although I’m not fully into them, I do watch them from time to time and especially that P.A.N.I.C.S. thing is some great fun. “The journey” is just absolutely fantastic and a must-see for everyone.
Looking forward to the next game review, though.

Cool episode, I didn’t even know something like this really existed.

My friend Carl pointed this cool video out to me the other day. It shows a gamer setting up some awesome still shots in MGS3. Not quite machinima, but should appeal to fans of that sort of thing. Check it out on kotaku: http://kotaku.com/355765/metal-gear-solid-picture-follies
