games: Microsoft Sidewinder mouse

With all the awesome PC games coming out in the next few weeks, why not treat yourself to a new mouse? This rodent from Microsoft is the first in what we suspect will be a new line of Sidewinder peripherals, resurrecting the brand last seen adoring PC joypads in the pre-Xbox days.

This is a great mouse that has some incredible features on paper, but which is probably going to be a bit clunky for most people.

Stay tuned as I get back to the games on Wednesday.

Nice to see a gaming hardware review :)
I mouse with my fingertips and I hate leads so errghh!

It also looks like an early prototype cobbled together from bits they had lying around which is a rather strange design choice.

Another fantastic episode as usual. Really enjoy this podcast, it does everything right - good length, no ads, a little humour, clearly well produced, and a very cute presenter. Thanks!

I have Logitech’s G7 wireless mouse and I love it. Great feel and excellent response. I don’t anticipate changing until this one dies or some revolutionary 3D interface is developed. :) As for Microsoft’s new Sidwinder mouse… that thing’s huge! I can tell just from looking at it I’d have a problem with the size. It’s cool to see Microsoft bringing back the Sidewinder series. I loved using the Sidewinder gamepad for Madden many years ago, although the Xbox controller is perfect for PC gamepad play so I don’t see them toping that.

What? 40 pounds for a fugly rat?
no thanks

My current mouse looks and feel better than the sidewinder and costs a fraction of the price. while it doesn’t have as many fancy features it has everything I will ever need out of a gaming mouse.

Yeah, I think large mice are a bit niche if this is supposed to be the product that relaunches the line. Strange marketing decisions all over this one!

Thanks for the comments, and if you’re interested in PC gaming hardware make sure to check out Wil’s review of the brand new GeForce 8800M GTX mobile graphics card at http://www.unwiredshow.tv. Wil compares how Crysis runs with this card and the previous one (8860) on a pair of Rock’s Xtreme 770 gaming laptops.

JCFG - sorry, but it doesn’t look like I’ll get a chance to review Super Mario Galaxy - still no Wii :( But at the moment I’m playing Assassin’s Creed and Crysis for next weeks shows, so it’s not all bad news :)

I dont know if this is any use to anyone but a while ago I had to replace the feet on my mouse and after a bit of research I found the ‘Hyperglide Mouse Skate’. They work better than the original Logitech ones and have just about the most awesome name in the history of naming stuff (except for maybe Wolf Blitzer).
