games: The Simpsons Game

Few people are s a bigger fan of the TV series than me - as the DVD boxsets on my shelf will attest. I’m a Simpsons nut - which just makes this game all the more galling. It’s got all the right tickboxes - original voice cast, great animation, the video game cliches that it promises - but just fails to deliver on the actual gameplay front. In short, its a parody of its self, and no more fun for it. Dang.

It can’t be as bad as Bart vs the Space Mutants, which forms part of gamings rich history of nigh impossible platformers from the late 80s and early 90s. I had it on the Amstrad and never got further than the second level. Hateful game. From what I played of the demo of this the review seems pretty spot on, which is a shame as there just aren’t enough games that are genuinely funny as well being fun.

Glad to see some of the impressions I got from the demo reaffirmed in your review.Too bad the camera would’ve been remedied by the release. Are there at least any particular levels to be enjoyed? The Mr. Sparkle trailer made the game seem like a very tempting buy!

@TL

I cho-cho-chose to trade in the copy EA sent me to review…

then they sent me a copy of the PSP and DS versions yesterday,,,, the PSP version is incredibly jaggy looking, not to mention it uses the clumsy anaogue nub, and the DS is a really poorly put together 2D platformer, and don’t get me started on the cut-scenes that looks like the animators hired their children to do them on the DS!

hehe, great intro!

You seemed to get the same feeling as me after I played the demo; the script was entertaining but the gameplay sucked bad.

Out of interest, will we be seeing a review of Assassins Creed soon? I sure hope so! :)

Glad to hear from you Kath that the game is not as good as it seems. A crappy game shielded out by the forgiving faces of the Simpsons family is a good trick from EA. I really like the simpsons and had hopes for this game, but with the help of this review, I can stick to saying ‘Another simpsons game gone wrong’.
