Hi Wil

Great review of the Asus at £200 a device like this might just take off.

I love the concept if they only made one in a slightly larger form factor it would be suitable for the older casual user like parents etc.

Not having to worry about Windows security to is a big bonus.

Great to finally see the EeePC in action, and it looks just great! :)

Now THAT’S something I would spend 200 beans on. Me want. Great review Wil, you and your “big man hands” are really getting into the swing of things now.

Cannot wait to buy this…

What a fantastic video review! You pretty much answered all of my questions. One thing though how does this thing handle viewing webpages? Does it load up everything like youtube and media sites pretty quickly?

I read over on the INQ you won’t be able to buy these for 200 squidges - the top models are more like 400-500 quid.

Nice review, a friend of mine told me about this Asus a few days ago and I am really intrigued by it, so this review comes in handy. However, I do not quite get how you can give it 5 stars and at the same time completely shit on the ergonomics. Even if the functions are great, if you break your hand typing or miss clicks due to bad haptic, that should be reflected in a lower rating. But if it really does sell for £200, I will look into buying it.

Wow this is excellent, great review too.
Finally a successor to the psion5 and psion netbook which i used to have.
If they keep to the price point this will be huge. My major gripe with notebook’s ith the overheating issue which negates all the benefits eventually of have all you app on such a computer.
Nice desktop and this as a compnion pc would be ideal for me.

Great review,

Definitly made me stop and think about it, and I’m glad that I did. Will probably order one by Christmas.

Keep it up.

Great! Watching your video review really helps me get a sense of how tiny the Eee PC really is.

Hi,

I read The Independent article today and watched all 3 shows on channelflip. I liked the style, length and content of each… well done for getting it right.

Have been thinking of setting up a low budget channel myself and would be interested to stay in touch. If you need any issues covered in the North East let me know,

I hope the keyboard on the EEE PC is better than the one on their Z96J Core 2 Duo notebook. That particular model had way too much flex.

great little laptop, not bad for 200.

Do you have another non Feedburner RSS feed for these shows? It would be good to view them from Shanghai where I teach IT in an international school.

Here are the problems. I cannot connect to the Itunes store from school. I am a Linux user and Blip.tv is blocked in China so Channel Flip is currently not working for me and I would like to show the Asus review to my students.

Hey Matt, can you get on YouTube? Our Eee PC video is at youtube.com/channelflip.

Thanks Will. I found it on Youtube before I saw your reply. We’ve been enjoying your Eeepc review all week as a starter for my IT lesson so you might have a few more viewers from Shanghai. It would be great if you and some of the Twit army could come to China to see what life is like behind the Great Firewall.

Hi Wil,

I listen to you all the time on TWIT. Great review. What do you think of this as a laptop to give to all students in say, high school? My school was looking at doing just this but I always thought it would be too expensive with repairs and what not. This seems like a good fit for a high school student and would certainly change how kids do things. Let me know your thoughts on this…

Hey Wil

I was listening to you on twit and you were saying that your 8800gtx system can’t handle crysis at high detail , well i run a 7800gtx and i can run all things on high . i know its stupid but did you download the 169.09 driver it really makes a difference on crysis

Cheers Will (Abingdon)

For use of these in schools. I’m ordering 3 as a test for the Primary school I work at. One for myself and 2 for use with pupils. I used them last week with RM, and I have to say, they are quite stirdy machines. I can’t see there being a great issue of repair, certainly compared with £600 - £1000 laptops, as you can replace the whole unit for £200!

also 3 years warranty with RM costs £40.

Are there any dedicated forums for owners of this kit?

[…] Eee PC is cute and definitely a good effort, but it seems too small to me to be useful. The video reviews show perspective. Instead of a unified package, I wish they could make one that is modular — […]
