film: Sunshine

So having loved Trainspotting, it’s a shame to see that Danny Boyle has never quite managed to recapture the magic in his subsequent films. Sunshine is not a bad film, but it never quite makes it beyond ’satisfactory’.

Make sure you subscribe to the show (iTunes link!) and check back on Wednesday for a new episode.

Okay, so whats with the Book of Animal Ignorance plugs? Is it genuine, sarcasm…I just don’t know. Please enlighten me. And when did this movie hit DVD? Has it been released in the states?? I remember seeing a theatricle trailer months ago and wanted to see it. I don’t remember when it was supposed to come out though. Keep up the quality work Justin. It is appreciated.

Hi Nate,
The Book of Animal Ignorance is a geniune advertisement. You can’t buy it in the US yet, but you can pick up the equally brilliant Book of General Ignorance on Amazon.
Which movie were you interested in getting on DVD?
best,
Justin

I was interested in Sunshine specifically. Is it currently available in the states.

**Brightens up and heads over to amazon.

I realize this response is like 4 months late, but yeah, Sunshine did open in the States but it only ran like 5 days @ my theater before getting yanked. Not suprising… I saw this movie by accident which is how most people probably viewed it due to a complete lack of advertising. So I walked into Sunshine sight unseen, and I must say, was totally shocked to learn it was a Sci-Fi Movie and a fairly decent one at that! You just don’t hear about “indi” sci-fi you know? The genre is so expensive to produce. Generally they market the hell out sci-fi, even the horrible ones, in order to make back production costs. Anyway, Sunshine was a good movie. Not GREAT, but good. A sci-fi film with an environimental commentary. Who woulda thunk it? Definitely worth a rental but I wouldn’t buy it. 2.5 stars outta 4 by me (for reference I’d give FantasticFour 1/2 a star / Pathfinder 0 stars / Ghost in the Shell 3 stars)
